Shramdaan Day at VKE

To decipher ‘Shramdaan’, ‘shram’ means labour and ‘daan’ means donation. Shramdaan means a voluntary contribution involving physical effort. It is a way of helping our community and contributing to help and change the environment around us for better. In order to inculcate this value in the present generation, Shramdaan Day is organised every year at Victorious Kidss Educares (VKE) to align with the purpose of service, which is an important aspect of IB teaching and learning. On 1st October 2019, the students of VKE participated in Shramdaan activities organised in school.

Students of MYP1 (Middle Years Programme) organised Physics and Biology Laboratories equipment in an orderly manner. They actively took responsibility and labelled the equipment and apparatus. They also took care of the safety measures in the Lab. They understood the importance of labour and enjoyed the work thoroughly. Through this activity, students developed skills such as self-management and social skills. They demonstrated the attributes of the IB Learner Profile. Students of MYP 2 helped the library staff in updating the catalogue information. They filled in the account number along with the book title and the author’s name on stickers and pasted the same inside the front cover of the books. Students of MYP3 organized Robotics lab. They were first given lab safety instructions. They arranged robotics kit and devices, as per the checklist and labelled them. Rest other students of MYP 3 helped in labelling the apparatus in Chemistry Laboratory.

Students of MYP4 students helped to organise the books in the library. They checked the inventory holding on different subjects to understand the diversity of resources they have. They contributed to making the library more interesting for the students. The students of DP1 and DP2 (Diploma Programme Year 1 and 2) also participated in Shramadaan activity. They were divided into groups of four and given the task of cooking without fire. They enthusiastically made various types of sandwiches and packed them in silver foil paper. These were then sent to an NGO, ‘The Robinhood Army’, based in Pune.

These activities proved valuable as it instils in them a spirit of Service, an essential component of the Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme. The students also collaborated with each other and completed the assigned task with dedication. At Victorious Kidss Educares, we couple IB with Vedanta. Creativity, Activity and Service are the core components of International Baccalaureate (IB).
