World Scholar’s Cup
Success comes to those who gain the habit of setting goals and achieving them. After winning laurels in the last year’s World Scholar’s Cup, Abhay Gupta, from MYP 4 (Balanced) is all geared up to make another mark this year with Piyush Kolhe from MYP5 (Balanced). Abhay and Piyush have qualified the Global Round 2020, the Pune Regional round where their team stood 2nd, out of more than 100 teams.
The World Scholar’s Cup is an international academic tournament that combines debate, collaborative writing, multiple-choice tests, and a multimedia quiz. The core idea is to motivate students to not just focus on existing skills and areas of strength, but also to discover new ones. All participants explore a new “theme” each year, one that connects science, technology, art, literature, music, history, and current affairs.
At any World Scholar’s Cup event, each day, teams undertake different academic and social challenges that require them to practice leadership and to hone and demonstrate important new skills. Students participate in teams of three. The competition is conducted in over 50 countries around the world. Moderating these regional rounds in India will be World Scholar’s Cup founder, Mr.Daniel Berdichevsky, a graduate of Stanford University and a Dean’s Fellow at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, along with a dedicated team of organizers and educators from the United States.
